The public is invited to make donations to help 14-year-old Mercedes "Sadie" Elaine Compton's family cover expenses incurred as a result of her diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia Jan. 29, 2010.
Sadie, who is struggling with treatment, is currently a patient at the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital, Indianapolis.
Staff members and students at NCMS are currently accepting donations on behalf of the family. Checks made payable to the North Clay Student Council Sadie Fund can be sent to the school address, 3450 W State Rd 340, Brazil. All of the money collected will go to pay for medical and other expenses incurred by the family during this trying time.
Dog tag necklaces made in honor of Mercedes are also available at $5 each and on sale at Auto-ER, 804 W. National Ave., Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. All sales from the necklaces will go toward Sadie's treatments.
In addition, cards of encouragement and support may be dropped off at the same location and will be delivered to Sadie at the hospital.
According to a family member, the community has rallied to the cause and generated more than more than 6,000 messages and 500 e-mails were recently written and sent to Degeneres.
