Mercedes "Sadie" Elaine Compton

Friday, April 29, 2011

Mercedes "Sadie" Elaine Compton, 14, Brazil, went to Heaven to be with Jesus April 28, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sadie was born Aug. 17, 1996, in Terre Haute. She had attended North Clay Middle School and was currently being home schooled by two of her favorite teachers, Russ True and Carol Stagg. During her year-long battle, Sadie had been a patient at the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. While there, she was cared for by many patients and their families, doctors, nurses and staff that have now become part of her family. Not only had she been blessed by their care she was able to bless them with many "life lessons" of humility, courage and love that they will carry in their hearts for eternity.

While at the hospital, Sadie had the opportunity to meet Peyton Manning and play a scrimmage game with him (she won!). Sadie also got to meet Dan Wheldon, Indianapolis 500 princesses, local celebrities, Butler Bulldogs Volleyball team, as well as many other celebrities.

Sadie was preceded in death by her grandfather Joe Prano and uncles Cliff Boone, Terry Sheldon, Frank Prano, Fred Prano, great-grandparents Albert and Rosemary Butler, as well as several other relatives.

Sadie leaves her legacy with her mom and dad Benetta and Brad Bryan, Brazil, brother Kayler Prano, aunts Theresa Cooksey, Jan Crowder, Kim Boone, Marsha Butler, Joyce Gardner and Stephanie Hill, uncles Rob Cooksey, Mark Crowder, Ben Butler, George Gardner, Stephen Hill, and Justin Bryan, grandparents Kay and George Wolfe and Penny and James Hill, great-grandmother Bonnie Helton, cousins Ruth, Alexus, Devon, Josh, Kristi, Robert, Brent, Brandy, Brad, Melissa, Jamie, Corey, T.J., Richie, Mikey, Andy, Zach and Christian, as well as close friends Charlotte Pharr, Hunter Fields and many extended family members.

Her family would like to thank all of those who have kept Sadie and their family in prayer during Sadies Journey. Special thanks go out to all of those in "Mercedes's Crew," as well as Dr. Jessica Goodman, Dr. Bassem Rozouk, Dr. Heather Escoto, Dr. Joann Hilden, Dr. Rahal, and Dr. McGuire, as well as all of the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital Family, who cared for her so well!

Services for Sadie will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Brazil, Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday, from 3-8 p.m. At the families' request, donations are to be made in Sadie's memory to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital.
