Organizers extend deadline for 'Chalk It Up'

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

During a break in the recent rainy weather, Northview High School student Rebecca Heitzman took advantage of the sunny day to draw an advertisement for both the recent drama department's play "GREASE" and the upcoming Chalk It Up fundraising event for the 2011 Clay County Relay For Life at the school May 14 (with a rain date of May 21). There's still time to register and get a free T-shirt for an upcoming Relay For Life fundraising event.

Event organizer and Key Club Sponsor Pat Krider recently told The Brazil Times, that although the original deadline has passed, artists interested in participating could still register and receive a shirt for the upcoming "Chalk It Up" fundraising event for the 2011 Clay County Relay For Life.

"If people contact me no later than Monday, May 9, I will still be able to order them a shirt for the event," Krider said. "This is going to be something unique for artists of all ages to participate in. We hope the community comes out to take part in this worthwhile event."

Sponsored by three clubs at Northview High School -- Key Club, SADD and BPA -- the art contest is scheduled to take place in the sidewalk and parking lot areas on the east side of the school May 14 (with a rain date of May 21).

All proceeds from the event will be used to support the upcoming 2011 Clay County Relay For Life event, which is scheduled to take place at the YMCA later in the afternoon.

Artists will be separated into four categories, age 6 and under, 7-11, 12-18 and 19-adult.

They can begin their artistic endeavors at 8 a.m., and have until 1 p.m., to finish their designs before the judging begins and photos are taken. Awards for first-, second- and third-place will be given out in all categories at 2 p.m.

There is a registration fee of $15, which includes a "special design" T-shirt for the participant. Registration forms must be completed and turned into Northview High School no later than May 9.
