The Northview Knights' baseball team hosted Edgewood Friday night and came away victorious in an 8-3 decision.

Things didn't look too good in the first inning for Northview starting pitcher T. J. Decker as he gave up a quick double on the game's first at-bat, which eventually turned into a 1-0 lead for the Mustangs.

The Knights responded well to Edgewood's opening score by scoring two of their own. Andrew Butts hit a single to centerfield, then Zac Niehaus blasted a double to left. Seth Lunsford brought them both home with a two RBI single to centerfield.

The Mustangs took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third thanks to Cameron Walls and Matt Newman. Walls hit a double, and Newman hit a RBI single.

However, their lead did not last as Northview put up a four-hit, four-run third inning.

Butts again started the scoring as he hit a base hit to get on first. The next five batters: Niehaus, Zach Hull, Lunsford, Joey Thomas and Connor Pierce all got on base consecutively.

Niehaus hit a RBI double, then Hull followed with a single to right field. Lunsford was hit-by-pitch, Thomas reached base on an error, and Pierce hit a RBI single. Butts, Niehaus, Hull and Lunsford all scored in the inning.

After the explosive scoring outburst, the Knights led 6-3.

"A great win for us to bounce back after a disappointing loss on Tuesday," Northview coach Scott McDonald said. "(The Mustangs) are really good. They've got a lot of kids back. (Decker) was a little erratic early, but had great command the rest of the night and really held them in check."

The Knights added to their lead by scoring a pair of runs in the sixth, then Decker finished things in the top of the seventh to solidify the victory.

Northview (11-3 overall, 3-1 WIC) plays next in the Big Four Tourney at West Vigo Saturday afternoon, with a game at noon against Terre Haute South and another at 3 p.m.

"We're going to play South in the first one," McDonald said of Saturday's games. "Craig Peters is going to pitch that game, and then we'll go with (Caleb) Mershon against North and see what happens."
