Mary was born July 27, 1916, in Seelyville, to John P. Butwin and Anna (Mehok) Butwin.
She is survived by a son Ken Buck and his wife Laura, Jasper, three daughters Susan Buck, Crawfordsville, Mary Ellen Buck, Seelyville, and Dorothy Buck, Seelyville, a brother George Butwin, Terre Haute, three sisters Anne Tribble, Galesburg, Ill., Helen M. Meunier, Brazil, and Dorothy Jones, Terre Haute, a sister-in-law Betty Butwin, Seelyville: two grandsons Dan Buck and his wife Brandi, Jasper, and Joe Buck, Miami Beach, Fla., three great-granddaughters Maci, Merin and Maggie Buck, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56-and-a-half years Kenneth Buck, who died Sept. 1, 2004, her parents and four brothers Wendell Butwin, John Butwin, Frank Butwin and Steve Butwin.
Besides being a homemaker for many years, Mary had also worked at Quaker Maid and was a long-time carrier for the Tribune Star newspaper. She was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was active in Annunciation Catholic Church and Schulte High School Mother's Associations. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Terre Haute, and a member of the American Postal Worker's Auxiliary. Mary was also an avid gardener.
Visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2011, from 4-8 p.m., in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian will be Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 10 a.m., in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Harold Rightor officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family has suggested that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Catholic Charities.
