A Clay County man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday morning.

Shortly before 11 a.m., Monday, members of the Brazil City Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to two-vehicle accident scene at the corner of Manatee Street and United States 40.

According to officials, several witnesses reported a black Toyota Tacoma truck attempted to change lanes as it left a nearby parking lot to turn into westbound traffic in front of an oncoming red car. When the truck struck the red 2002 Dodge Avenger, the rear of the car hit a curb, causing the car to flip over and land in the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant's parking lot at 818 East National Ave.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, James Bratcher II, 39, Brazil, was conscious, alert and had apparently crawled out of the wreckage. Sustaining lacerations to his head and shoulders, Bratcher was taken by TransCare Ambulance to St. Vincent Clay Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the truck, David Figg, 23, Freedom, Ind., reported no injuries and was released at the scene.

Officials confirmed the damage to the Dodge Avenger was apparently enough to total it, while no damage reports were available for the Toyota truck.

No citations have been issued in the case at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

When will people start paying attention!!!! Too often drivers think they are the ONLY ONES on the road. Look before making sudden decisions!

This once again brings up the conversation for how poor the plans where for the McDonald's and rest of the Forest Park Plaza. Everyone I'm sure has said it before and are still saying it now, there needs to be stop lights, a one way built entrance and exit to the plaza or extending Jackson through the east side to relieve some traffic on 40 or something! One of these days we are going to loose another citizen of Brazil cause of the drag strip that has developed out there! People show no concern for other drivers and the city really needs to do SOMETHING!
