Alpha Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa

The Alpha Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa met May 2, 2011, at 6 p.m., at Union United Methodist Church. Hostesses for this month were Theresa Underwood and Jamie Bell. Prior to the meeting, a pledge ceremony was done for Mandy Loughmiller. President Larissa Goshen called the meeting to order, followed by the opening song and verse. Christy Casassa took roll call and read the minutes of the April meeting.

The treasurer's report was accepted as read. Two bills were submitted. One by Theresa Underwood for $27.99 for the cake for the meeting and one submitted for $25 by Meganne Holley for gas to the State Convention. Larissa Goshen made a motion to pay the bills. Jamie Bell read correspondence. Thank-you's were passed around thanking Tri Kappa for the gifts given for adopt a family. A large card made by Meridian Elementary second-graders was passed around thanking Tri Kappa for the books they were given. A message was read from Carissa Clarke asking for inactive status at this time. Mary Yelton made a motion to grant Carissa inactive status and Charlotte Pickett seconded it.

Standing Committee reports were given next. Jamie Bell handed out Little Perks. Jamie Bell and Sherri Stevenson celebrated May birthdays. Theresa Underwood celebrated a May anniversary. Jamie Bell donated the Maurizio's gift certificate to Sherri Stevenson. Theresa Underwood picked out candy for her anniversary. Michelle Oehler reported that she had sent out the Subway gift cards to the college members.

Project committee reports were given next. Larissa Goshen went over the Beef House Rolls project. This was a quick and easy fundraiser for Tri Kappa to do. We may possibly sell rolls around Thanksgiving time as well. Members discussed moving up pecan/nut sales to August/September to allow for the selling of rolls. The Bingo committee discussed this year's bingo. It was not as successful this year as it had been the previous year and several factors were discussed as to why. It was discussed that members should try and get donations from businesses earlier so the bingo committee knows what they have for door prizes. Members also discussed moving the date up to before spring break next year (early March) to see if that makes a difference in attendance. The Scholarship committee will be meeting at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, May 4, to choose scholarship recipients. The new guidelines that were discussed at the previous meeting will be put in place when choosing scholarship recipients.

Old business was discussed. Tri Kappa members decided to focus on a few of our larger fundraisers and take out the dance for now.

New business was discussed. Mark Rodgers gave Mary Yelton golf passes for rounds of golf at Forest Park for members to purchase. Meganne Holley and Larissa Goshen reported information they learned from the State Convention.

Officers need to be elected before May 31, and installed before June. There will be no more Province workshops, but there will be Province conventions every odd year. Inspection will be moved to the fall and our per capita amount to be paid to the state went up $2. Meganne also passed out some fun facts she learned from convention this year.

Tri Kappa members voted on officers. Officers include President, Meganne Holley; Vice President, Megan Baylor; Treasurer, Kristen Beasley; Recording Secretary, Nicole Keller; Corresponding Secretary, Vanessa Paullus; Assistant Corresponding Secretary, Christy Casassa; and Assistant Recording Secretary, Sara Schultz. We still need an assistant treasurer. Preference sheets were handed out to members to be filled out and turned in by the June meeting. Dues will be due in August.

The closing verse was recited and the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next meeting will be held on June 6, 2011, at First United Methodist Church.
