James A. Crabb, 88, Brazil, passed away at Cloverleaf Health Care, Knightsville, Monday, May 23, 2011, following a brief illness.

Jim was born in Harmony, July 15, 1922, the son of Harley and Mary Ellen (Shaffer) Crabb. He graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1940, and married his high school sweetheart Mary Jane (Carter) in 1942. Jim lived most of his life in Clay County. He had worked at American Vitrified for 25 years, retiring as Superintendent in 1969. Jim's "other career" and passion was as a farmer, which he spent most of his life enjoying.

He also enjoyed working outdoors mowing, gardening, playing Euchre and in his earlier years hunting and fishing. Later in life, he enjoyed taking Sunday drives or anytime spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Dick Johnson Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Jane, daughter Judy Kaye Eberle, brother Donald Ray Crabb, sister Beatrice Embry, and infant granddaughter Shelly Kaye Eberle.

Jim is survived by his sons Harold Crabb (Susan) and Larry Crabb, both of Brazil, grandchildren Lisa Fugate (Raymond), Thomas Eberle (Heather), Chris Eberle (Barbara), Jake Crabb, Dirk Crabb, and Josh Crabb (Kylene), nine great-grandchildren, son-in-law Danny Eberle, sisters Betty Morris and Norma LeMay, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ernie Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today, from 4-8 p.m.
