EVANSVILLE -- Northview's girls' qualifiers for the Evansville Central Track and Field Regional on Tuesday night can't be overly disappointed with their collective performances.

Several Knights had season-best performances and one Northview athlete was far less than 100-percent due to an ankle injury suffered at the sectional.

The competition in Evansville was deep and talented, which kept any Knights from qualifying for the IHSAA State Finals, but there were still some excellent efforts.

Jessica Thacker leaped nearly a foot farther than her previous best distance in the long jump on the way to placing seventh overall. Her leap of 16-5 topped her jump of 15-6 in the sectional by far. However, Riverton Parke's Sheldan Falls had a jump nearly two-feet farther than her sectional distance in finishing second at the regional (17-4 ) behind Mt. Vernon's Kate Cox (17-9 ).

Leeanna Knight was the sectional winner in the long jump for the Knights, but her ankle injury severely limited her on Saturday according to coach Ryand Tucker.

"Leeanna injured her ankle at sectional and we were lucky that she even was able to participate," Tucker said. "It would have been nice to advance some athletes to state but the competition is tough at the Evansville Regional."

Knight jumped just 14-3 in the long jump with her injury hampering her regular explosiveness. She was also unable to run in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events, which she competed in during the sectional. Knight was also 16th in the preliminaries of the 100-meters and did not reach the finals.

Senior Annie Smiley performed well in her regional appearance as she ran her season-best in the 300 hurdles (49.65) placing eighth in a time that was more than a full second better than her sectional time. She also qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles and equaled her seeded time with a fifth-place finish in 16.18.

Northview's 4x100 relay team ran its second fastest time of the season next to the WIC Meet and placed sixth with a time of 51.83. The 4x400 relay team placed 10th in 4:30.32, which was a half second faster than their sectional time.

Terre Haute North claimed the regional team title with 81 points to top second-place Castle (64).

The Patriots' Chanli Mundy won the 3,200 meters in 11:31 and North also got a win from its 4x800 relay team that included Emily Cotterman, Jessi Conley, Layne Curley and Sydney Dickerson.

The IHSAA State Finals will take place at Indiana University's track and field complex on Saturday, June 4 beginning at 3 p.m.
