My name is Gracellen Geswein. Having been selected to represent the Clay County Fair means more to me than receiving my first champion 4-H ribbon for my homegrown steer.
Every little girl dreams of growing up to be a princess. My childhood dream came true that night. However, on any given night, any one of the girls on that stage could have won.
The princess pageant isn't a beauty pageant. We had so much fun in the weeks leading up to the pageant and we learned many life lessons. Interview skills, competition, good sportsmanship and how to win and lose gracefully are all lessons we will use throughout our lives. We became friends with girls from other schools, of different social and religious backgrounds and, most importantly, we learned how to properly apply mascara.
I would love to take this opportunity to invite all Clay County girls, ages 12-15, to enter this year's pageant. If you will still be 15 July 2, 2011, you are eligible to be this year's princess.
All applicants are required to submit an application, personal photo, entry fee of $25 and questionnaire. The pageant will take place Saturday, July 2.
Applications may be accessed at www.ag.purdue.edu/counties/clay, and are due by Friday, June 3.
Applications may be dropped off at the Clay County Extension Office, located on State Road 59, or mailed to Clay County 4-H Council, Attn: Dianna Knox, PO Box 702, Brazil, Ind., 47834.
