Merlin T. Kirk, 74, Brazil, died May 28, 2011, unexpectedly at his home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1936, in Morgan County, the son of Daniel Kirk and Goldie Lorraine Bange Kirk.
He graduated from Monrovia High School.
He moved to the Brazil area in 1954, when he began his career with the Air National Guard. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and last worked as a training systems technician.
As a young man, he worked with the Civil Defense, the Sheriff's Department, and enjoyed Hamm Radio operations. He truly enjoyed being outside, working in his garden and cutting the grass.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his two daughters Dana L. Kirk (Chuck Oricks), Brazil, and Lisa A. Petrowski (Joseph), Big Spring, Texas, grandchildren J.D. Miller (Rose), Sara Neier (Josh Thomas), Leslie Watts (Ryan), Justin Petrowski (Hali), Jeremy Petrowski, Jacob Petrowski, Katrina Petrowski, and Valerie Petrowski, great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Miller, Dillon Miller, Michaela Allen, Kylie Watts, Garrett Watts, and Carli Tubbs, and other extended family.
Private family graveside services will take place Wednesday, at Hall Cemetery, with Kenny Thomas officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m., at French Funeral Home.
