Deadline for herbalism workshop set for Friday

WEST TERRE HAUTE -- Friday is the deadline to register to participate in a workshop June 17-19, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods presented by international lecturer and author Matthew Woods, a specialist in medical herbalism.

The program begins Friday and ends Sunday. Presentations will cover plant identification, self-care, wild crafting and basic applications.

Sponsors for the program are the Wabash Valley Master Gardeners and the Maple Center.

The workshop is hosted by White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of Sisters of Providence.

Woods has lectured across the United States and also in Canada, Scotland, England and Australia.

He is known throughout the world as a teacher of herbal medicine.

He is the author of four books published by North Atlantic Books. Those titles are, "Seven Herbs, Plans as Teachers," "Vitalism, The History of Herbalism," "The Book of Herbal Wisdom," and "The Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism."

Cost of the program is $250, which includes meals. Housing is available for $45 per night at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

The Sisters of Providence, a congregation of nearly 400 religious women, have their motherhouse at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, located northwest of Terre Haute.

Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in 1840. Today, Sisters of Providence minister in 19 states, the District of Columbia and Asia.
