A 5K run/walk, car/bike cruise-in, freewill breakfast and more will be hosted Sept. 17, with all benefits going to the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department to help get the brush truck up and going.
The vehicle has been down for quite a while now and the money will also be used to update equipment such as radios, pagers and gear.
There are many events currently planned for the day, including mass casualty trailer and smoke house for spectators to tour through while learning about fire safety. The department is also working on having a tent set up to conduct free blood pressure checks and health and wellness information.
Demonstrations will take place for the Jaws of Life and other items.
One of the main focuses of the event is to just recognize emergency response personnel and their equipment. All departments in the county are invited to participate and bring a piece of their equipment to be placed on display so residents can see what the county has to offer to help serve and protect and save lives.
The 5K run/walk will begin at the Bowling Green town square and the finish line will be on East Washington Street on the south side of the square in front of the community building.
During the 5K, there will also be a special award given to the emergency response participant with the best finish time. They will have bragging rights until next year.
A special letter is being sent out to all fire departments as well as search and rescue, TransCare, and law enforcement agencies of the county as well as the surrounding agencies that provide mutual aid. Challenging them to send a member to participate in the race. Those participating will be given a discounted entry into the race.
Medals and ribbons will be awarded. Medals to the top three placings of six age groups for the runners of male/female and ribbons to the top three placings of five age groups male/female for the walkers. With trophies and medals being given to the top overall male and female finishers for the runners and walkers.
At this time, T-shirts will be given to the first 100 entrants in the race, but more shirts may be purchased if the registration is high.
The department is also searching for sponsorship for the event.
The car/bike show will also take place with a fan favorite award to be given away.
There is also the possibility of live entertainment.
During the 5K, there will also be a freewill donation breakfast served. Pancakes, sausage, juice and fruit will be available from 8-11:30 a.m.
Packet and pick up and registration will begin the day of the event from 7:30-9:15 a.m. The race is scheduled to begin at 9:30, and awards will be given out at 11:30.
Cost for early registration -- from now until Sept. 1 -- is $20. Late registration (Sept. 2 until the day of the event) is $25.
Registration may be made by e-mailing Glenna.firstname.lastname@example.org, for a brochure or by grabbing one at locations throughout the county.
