"I am very excited about moving into the school corporation and making it my home. We've got a lot of supportive parents, a terrific group of administrators, teachers and students, a community that thrives for success and I look forward to serving," Tucker told The Brazil Times.
School board Vice President Tina Heffner chose to abstain during the vote.
"I felt we have several qualified candidates. We had one that I thought had great qualifications for the job, but this is a board decision and I wanted to vote in a way that was most beneficial to the board and school corporation," Heffner told The Brazil Times.
Board member Jennifer Kaelber did not attend the meeting.
During the meeting, board member Amy Burke Adams thanked all the applicants who sought the position.
"It was very flattering that we received so many applications. Many people wanted to come here. They wanted to be a part of our schools, work with staff and students and be a part of our community. It speaks very highly of the corporation that we had so much interest, but we know Kimberly J. Tucker will do a great job and we are really excited," Adams said.
Board President Rob Miller said he was confident with the choice the board made.
"She's done a great job. I believe she'll continue to do a great job to serve our schools," Miller said.
The board is still in the process of selecting an Assistant Superintendent.
