Marvin Evan Waldbieser, 88, Center Point, died Thursday morning, June 16, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Clay County, as the son of Henry Oscar and Ruth Juanita Hopkins Waldbieser. He attended the Ashboro School. He worked at Allison Transmission/General Motors until his retirement in 1987. He married Ruth Foster, who preceded him in death Sept. 19, 2010. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, where he served as Helmsman on LST 391.

He was a lifetime member of the Center Point United Methodist Church. He served on several church committees, including the committee to plan for the Family Life Center and he had taught youth Sunday school several years. Along with his wife Ruth, Marvin sang in the Hilltoppers gospel singing group. He was a Charter Member and Past Master of Center Point Masonic Lodge No. 597. He is the last living charter member of the Center Point Volunteer Fire Dept. He also enjoyed sports and spending winter months in Florida and Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, and brothers Malcolm and Philmon Waldbieser.

He is survived by daughters Linda Miklik (Tom) and Jodi Sowders (Jeff), son Mark Waldbieser (Hope), six grandchildren, Michael Miklik (Bethany), Kelly Miklik Barker (Travis), Kerry Miklik Martin (Jake), Christy Sowders Hughes (J.T.), Ben Sowders (Becky) and Jared Waldbieser, 10 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Harriet Sneddon, and other extended family.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Monday, June 20, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home with Rev. Bob Kumpf officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Center Point United Methodist Church, 202 S. Cherry St., Center Point Ind., 47840.
