Rotary set to start 4th of July Celebration

The Rotary Club of Brazil's 76th 4th of July Celebration will officially kick off Tuesday, June 28, at Forest Park.

The celebration will feature a new carnival this year. Cumberland Valley Shows will run the carnival, which will begin Tuesday, June 28, which will have available ticket packages.

Entertainment the first evening features local dance studio performances from Cindy's Dance Studio at 5 p.m., and Tumble Express Dance Studio at 7:15.

The YMCA of Clay County will also have a Country-Rhodes fundraising dinner from 4-7 p.m., in the Forest Park Pavilion.

The all-you-can-eat-buffet will feature chicken, shrimp or catfish, and iced tea or lemonade for $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children.

Desserts will be available for additional purchase and all proceeds benefit the YMCA of Clay County.

YMCA meal tickets are available from the YMCA and Silver Sneaker members.

Wednesday, June 29, will kick off with Special Rides for Special People at 1 p.m.

The midway will open at 6 p.m., and entertainment will feature the Van-Dells, with two shows at 7 and 9 p.m.

On Thursday, June 30, the annual Fish Fry to benefit Clay Community High School Bands will begin at 4 p.m., in the Pavilion.

The Northview High School Band and Color Guard, along with North Clay Middle School Band and Cadet Corps will perform at 6:30 and 8 p.m., at the band shell. See band members from either Northview or Clay City for more information on tickets.

The school band boosters will also offer bake sale items during the Fish Fry.

On Friday, July 1, the free stage entertainment will be provided by Moore's Dance Studio at 5:30 p.m., and followed by Toni's Tumbling and Dance studio at 7 p.m. Local food vendors will also begin selling food and drink items to benefit local non-profit organizations beginning July 1, and continuing through July 4.

The annual Firecracker Run will begin at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, July 2. The YMCA of Clay County sponsors the event.

In addition, the 12th Forest Park Golf Course Brazil Open Pro AM, Senior, Junior and Ladies divisions will begin Saturday, July 2, and conclude Sunday, July 3.

The Brazil Open winner will receive $750. Call Forest Park Golf Course Pro Mark Rogers at 442-5681 for further information.

The Indiana Blood Center will conduct a blood drive from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, July 2. The location of the bloodmobile will be announced.

Free entertainment Saturday, July 2, will be offered from Six Figures, performing shows at 6:30 p.m., and 8 p.m.

On Sunday, July 3, the midway will be open and the Brazil Concert Band, sponsored by Brazil City Parks, will perform its regularly scheduled patriotic concert at 7:30 p.m., in the band shell.

Monday, July 4, will feature the 36th John Thomas Memorial Sack Race in the Park. Times are 2:30 p.m. (children 7-under), 3 p.m. (children 9-under), 3:30 p.m. (children 11-under), 4 p.m. (children 13-under), and 4:30 p.m. (children 15-under). All sack race entrants will receive cash prizes.

The midway will open at 2 p.m. Single ride tickets will be available at ticket booths starting at 6 p.m.

The featured entertainment for the evening will be the Good Feelings Band, performing at 6 p.m.

At 8 p.m., the Brazil Concert Choir and Children's Choir, directed by Sam Glover, will perform.

The annual Aerial Arts Gala Fireworks Show, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brazil, will begin at 10 p.m. Music will be timed to the fireworks display on WBOW 102.7-FM. A rain date for the fireworks display has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 5.

The annual raffle drawing for the $10,000 grand prize is scheduled for 11 p.m.

Raffle ticket sales for the grand drawing are underway with Rotarians selling tickets. Cost is one ticket for $5, three for $10, or six for $20.

Beginning June 26, raffle tickets will have limited availability and will be sold only at Rotary Celebration headquarters during celebration hours at Forest Park.

Raffle ticket sales help fund yearly Rotary Club of Brazil community projects and many non-profit groups and organizations.

Door prizes for other donated items and gift certificates, in addition to the grand prize drawing, will take place July 1-4.
