Waneta Rector, 96, Brazil, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute.

She was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Brazil, as the daughter of Ray and Nellie Davis Rector.

She graduated from Brazil High School. She attended and graduated from Indiana State University Teachers College. She worked for many years in county government as the court reporter at the Clay County Courthouse.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brazil for more than 90 years. She was a member of the Clay County Historical Society, Wesley Circle at the First Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the Republican Party.

She loved gardening and recycling flowers. She was a large contributor to several American Indian organizations, the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, the Literary Coalition and Friends of the Library.

She was preceded in death by her parents, half-sister Geneva Bergen, half-brother Wilford Rector, and sister Irene Rector, who died June 26, 2005.

She is survived by special family members Pearl Holley and Mary Talmage, special friends and caregivers Dennis and Myra Holley, Betty Elwell and Anita Clyburn, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home with Pastor Greg Rittenhouse officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Caring Ministry, 201 N. Meridian St., Brazil, Ind., 47834.
