Recent flooding has caused an uproar among some residents in Brazil.

With these issues, a public meeting has been organized for 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, in the Council Chambers of City Hall to discuss flood mitigation options.

"Manuela Johnson with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security will be speaking during the meeting and I would encourage anyone from Brazil that has had flooding issues to attend," Brazil City Planning Administrator Stacy Gibbens said. "Ms. Johnson will be discussing specific options available to the City, how long these options may take to come to fruition and also the status of the State's request for a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster declaration."

At the June 8 meeting of the Common Council of the City of Brazil, City Engineer Brian Pohlar outlined the proposed floodplain map for Brazil, along with the current storm sewer system and Pogues' Run, which will also be topics of discussion during the meeting.

"It is imperative everyone with property in the Pogue's Run floodplain come to this meeting so they know what assistance options the City has available to mitigate future flood damage," Gibbens said.
