Northview spring athletes were well-represented on the All-Western Indiana Conference teams this year and were honored during the recent sports banquet.
The Knights placed 20 athletes on the WIC squads in six different sports led by the conference champion softball team.
An unbeaten conference mark earned the Knights a spot at the top of the WIC standings and a 20-7 overall season record.
Taylor Carter led the team with a .521 average during her sophomore season with a team-high 42 RBI and two home runs. She also scored 17 times and slugged .750 while reaching base better than 54 percent of the time. In the pitching circle, Carter was 17-5 with a 1.20 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 134 innings. She also threw six shutouts.
Alyssa Conrad was outstanding as a leadoff batter for Northview this season, hitting .458 and reaching base 54 percent of the time as well. Conrad led the team with 33 runs scored, walked a team-high 19 times and had nine doubles.
Jessica LaTourette was pivotal behind the plate with her defense and also hit .350 for the Knights with seven doubles and 12 RBI in her senior season.
Hope Torbert hit at a .333 clip this season, scored 11 times and drove in 14 runs in her sophomore year.
The Northview baseball program placed second in conference play this year with a 5-1 mark and a 17-10 overall record and placed seniors, Seth Lunsford, Zac Niehaus and junior Zach Hull on the All-WIC squad.
Lunsford, a Lincoln Trail College recruit, led the team with a .467 batting average behind the plate, drove in 15 runs and scored 15 times for Northview. He also reached base 52 percent of the time and struck out only three times.
Niehaus, an Olney Central College recruit, hit .349 with 24 runs scored and drove in a team-high 21 runs, four home runs and stole nine bases. He was also second on the team with a 602 slugging percentage.
The 2011 season was a special one for the track and field teams as senior Joel Whittington reached the state finals and placed third in the 300-meter hurdles and also competed in the 110-meter hurdles. Jordan VanHorn was a sectional champion in the discus to earn all-conference status along with fellow sectional champ, Levi Pollard.
Whittington finished 15th in the 100-meter hurdles at the state finals while setting a new school record of 14.58 and also set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.39.
On the girls' side, Annie Smiley was a sectional winner in the 100-meter hurdles and pole vault and earned all-WIC honors along with Leeanna Knight, who won the long jump and was a member of the sectional winning 4x100 relay team. Jessica Thacker, Natasha Barrett and Allison McWilliams were also on the winning 4x100 relay team at the WIC Meet. Andrea Schultz was a member of the sectional champion 4x100 relay team along with Knight, McWilliams and Barrett.
Northview's boys' golf team placed third at the conference meet and placed Brad Smith (39), Jacob Musgrave (38) and Larry Knight (40) on the All-WIC team.
The girls' tennis team placed both Kaci Kehrt and Briana Cook on the WIC squad for a team that reached the sectional championship match against Owen Valley.
The Noble Knight Award was presented to one athlete in each sport throughout the year and signifies the athletes' contribution to Northview athletics in terms of service, dedication, commitment and leadership.
This spring's winners included Kodie Girton (baseball), Smith (boys' golf), Samantha Montague (softball), Kehrt (girls' tennis), Whittington (boys' track) and Smiley (girls' track).
