Jim 'Hoppy' Cassidy will be celebrating his 80th birthday with an open house on Satuday, July 2, from 4-7 p.m., at Peniel United Methodist Church, 9225 Kennedys Crossing Road, Brazil.
Jim was born in Clinton and moved to Brazil when he was one-year old.
He married Lois Thomas on Nov. 24, 1951, and was drafted into the Korean Conflict on July 18, 1952. He was honorably discharged on June 15, 1954.
Jim worked for Girton Brothers Trucking for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. He worked on many of family and friends cars out of his garage for many years, and loves to fish. He raced stock cars (38) at Lincoln Park Speedway and Sweet Owen.
He is a member of the Peniel United Methodist Church and the Vigo County Conservation Club, and is a lifetime member and past Commander of the VFW Post 1127.
Jim is the father of Mike and wife Holly; Terri and husband Jim; Jackie and husband, Jamey; and Lori and husband Otis. Grandchildren include Frog, Crystal, Alan, Matthew, Jessica, Jennifer, Katie, Logan and Emily. Great-grandchildren Hunter, Briar, Kaleb, Alexandria, Peyton, Leven and Korbin, and great-great-granddaughter Jaylin.
Jim is a friend to many and never meets a stranger, please join them for cake and ice cream to celebrate 80 years of life. All friends and family are invited to attend.
