William "Bill" Ray Elder

William "Bill" Ray Elder, 77, Brazil, passed away unexpectedly June 26, 2011.

Bill was born Dec. 7, 1933, in Terre Haute, the son of William Reid and Lucia (Busiere) Elder. After graduating from Valley High School in West Terre Haute, Bill joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he played on their baseball team and served on the Under Water Demolition Team (now known as the Navy Seals) during the Korean War. During the war, he served on the USS Hancock and in Guam. After returning home he went to work as an electrician in West Terre Haute. He had also worked as a landscaper in Georgia, as a car salesman in Brazil and Florida, and most recently for Terminix as a pest technician.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing, playing and watching baseball and basketball and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Lucia Elder.

He is survived by his wife Patricia "Patty" Elder, daughter Tammy Elder, Brazil, sons William "Billy" Elder (Kathryn), Oxford, Ga., Luke Elder (Ashley), Brazil, Jon Elder (Amber), O'Fallon, Ill., Jacob Elder, Brazil, grandchildren Rochelle Bullerdick, Austin Bullerdick, Jocey Elder, Billy Elder, Kaylee Elder, Kinsley Elder, Morgan Braswell, Colleen Hilburn, Connor Hilburn, Cameron Elder and Logan Elder.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, Brazil, Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 7 p.m., with Brother Robert Stultz officiating, with a military tribute provided by members of the VFW, American Legion and United States Navy. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday, from 4 p.m., until time of services.
