CLAY CITY -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced Monday that crews will close the State Road 59 and State Road 246 intersection on the east side for approximately 250-feet Tuesday.

The closure is for the reconstruction of the intersection. The roadway is scheduled to reopen July 15.

The westbound detour will start at the junction of SR 246 and SR 46; traffic should follow westbound SR 46 to SR 59 then south to First Street in Clay City, turn west onto First Street, to Nye Street, then south to Eight Street. Eastbound traffic on SR 246 will follow SR 59 north to eastbound SR 46 to the junction of SR 246.

Dave O'Mara Contractor, Inc., was awarded the $3.5 million Major Moves contract. The project on SR 59 is from just south of the intersection with SR 157 and Ninth Street to just north of First Street in Clay City.

The improvements include two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot parking lanes along both sides of the roadway. Curbs, gutters and sidewalks will also be added.

The project on SR 59 is expected to be completed by the end of October.
