BCB to present 'Sound of Music'

Monday, July 4, 2011

Matthew S. Huber
The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "The Sound of Music," Sunday, July 10, at 8 p.m., at the Forest Park Band Shell.

If it is raining, the concert will be moved to the pavilion.

All of the beloved music by Richard Rodgers is contained in this classic arrangement by Robert Russell Bennett.

Continuing with music from the Civil War, the BCB will offer, "Battle Hymn of the Republic," by Sammy Nestico and "Tara's Theme" from "Gone With The Wind," by Max Steiner and arranged by Ross Hastings.

On deck is a pair of John Philip Sousa's best-known marches, "The Washington Post," and "El Capitan," along with waltzes by the same title.

From the Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton movie, "The Sandpiper," the band will perform, "The Shadow of Your Smile," by Webster and Mandel.

Themes from Beethoven's Third Symphony will sound forth in "Overture Eroica," in a setting by Skornicka.

The trumpet section will get a workout in the south of the border tune, "Trumpets Ole," by Frank Cofield.

The finest of Irish melodies will be heard on Clare Grundman's "An Irish Rhapsody."

A favorite two-step of the band's audience, "The Walking Frog," by Karl King, will also be performed.
