Historical Society plans meeting

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

The Clay County Historical Cabins in Forest Park were open July 4, from noon-6 p.m.

The historical cabins are maintained and operated by the Historical Society and are open for special events.

The Clay County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., July 11, in the lower level of the museum. Due to the July 4 holiday falling on a Monday, the date for the historical society meeting was pushed back one week.

The guest speaker at the July 11 meeting will be attorney Charles Hear, who will discuss the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

The August meeting will take place Aug. 1, at the museum and the guest speaker will be Licia A. Weber, Director of Coal Mine Information System with the Indiana Geological Survey. She will discuss abandoned coal mines.

The public is invited to attend the programs.

The special display, "Indiana Through the Mapmakers Eye," on loan from the Indiana Historical Society, will be on exhibit at the museum until July 8.

The museum is open Monday-Friday, from 1-4 p.m., and Saturday, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

The museum will be closed Monday, July 4.
