'Pet Therapy'

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

For more than five years, Clay County Humane Society members Jane Douglas and Pam Fugate, both from Brazil, have been spending their Fridays with the smallest of God's creatures and patients at local nursing home facilities in Clay County. The two dedicated pet lovers take kittens, puppies and small dogs to the healthcare facilities as part of "pet therapy" for the patients. Both women said the patients really appreciate and look forward to the visits. "If we don't make it one week, we really hear about how much they missed their time with the animals," Fugate said while loading up three kittens last Friday. "These visits have also led to several adoptions." Ivy Jacobs Photo.
