Shakamak State Park offering swim lessons

Thursday, July 7, 2011

JASONVILLE -- Shakamak State Park will offer swimming lessons this summer for children ages 3-8, and spots usually fill up quickly, according to Clerk Tina Davis.

The lessons will be at the swimming pool from July 11-14, and again July 18-21.

The 45-minute lessons begin at 11 a.m.

"There are only 20 spots, so they (parents) need to sign up early and prepay so we know all the spots are full," Davis said.

The class is $2 per day, and signups and payments may be taken care of in the office at Shakamak State Park.

"They (the children) are learning the basic skills for floating and stuff like that, and how to hold their breath," Davis said.

There will be four lifeguards instructing the class, with five students per lifeguard.

The swimming classes are currently the only ones scheduled for the summer.

Davis said the number of classes varies depending on the number of children who sign up.

That's a little far to drive for swim lessons.
