Earnest W. Chesshir, 48, Brazil, passed away unexpectedly, July 15, 2011.

Ernie was born Aug. 31, 1962, in Terre Haute, the son of Delbert Ray and Melvina E. (Evitts) Chesshir. Ernie graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1980. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged two years later.

Ernie worked for Great Dane Trailers for 10 years, LEAR Corporation for a short time before working for Crown Equipment, Greencastle, as a welder and retired due to failing health in 2004.

In his younger years Ernie enjoyed fishing, watching sports -- especially Colts Football and I.U. (Bobby Knight) Basketball. Ernie also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Earnest and Edith Chesshir.

Ernie leaves behind his wife of 25 years Fonda Chesshir, children Sarah (Mike) Loudermilk, Terre Haute, David McCullough (Debbie Stevenson), Tabitha Batchelor (Troy Fagin), and Jeremy Batchelor (Katie Smith), beloved dogs Snoopy, Bob and Mimi, grandchildren Matthew, Megan, Haley, Jacob, Gary, Logan, Gavin, Dylan, Damon, Zackery, Daisy, Varsity, Alisha and Isaac, parents Delbert and Melvina Chesshir, brother Kelly Chesshir (LaDonna), sisters Katherine Ray Tarwater (Mike Archer) and Mariah Chesshir, and lifetime friend Danny Davis.

Services for Ernie will be at French Funeral Home Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Tim Russell and John O'Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Garrard Chapel Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, Md., 20814, or the Clay County Humane Society PO Box 277, Brazil, Ind., 47834.
