Business, residents should honor law enforcement

Sunday, July 17, 2011

To the Editor:

Today is Saturday, July 14.

On Monday, a police officer was shot and killed in Terre Haute and his canine partner was wounded. In driving through Brazil, I have noticed that all the businesses have their flags flying at half-mast. All except two. The Harris National Bank and United States Post Office in downtown Brazil have not lowered their flags.

I wonder why.

I looked at their flag poles and they seem to be operational.

So, why have you not lowered your flags to honor this man?

I am embarrassed and appalled all at the same time by your inaction.

And to all who have lowered their flags, and this includes some individual homeowners who have flag poles in their yards, I say thank you and God bless.

Remember, the men, women and canines in law enforcement are putting their lives on the line every single day to protect you.

You should want to honor them for that.

Jaqui Griffith,

Brazil
