A pedestrian was sent to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning.
Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton told The Brazil Times dispatchers at the Clay County Justice Center received a call at about 5:30 a.m., regarding a woman staggering along State Road 42, approximately one-half mile west of County Road 200 East.
While deputies were en route to the scene, a 911 call was received stating the woman had been hit by a vehicle and was bleeding profusely from the head.
"Apparently, the side view mirror of the vehicle hit the woman in the back of the head," Heaton said. "Upon arriving on the scene, the woman was up and walking around."
Heaton added the driver of the vehicle, Matthew R. Treash, 28, remained at the scene of the accident, and a breathalyzer was administered on the woman, Amber N. Cobb, 27, which found her blood alcohol level to be .18.
Cobb was transported by AirEvac to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, for treatment on her injuries.
Heaton said separate investigations are still being conducted on the accident, as well as the potential for public intoxication charges.
Also assisting at the accident scene were TransCare and Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department.
