He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Brazil, to James William Forrest and Elizabeth Powell-Forrest.
John retired from the sales industry.
His memberships include Last Men's Club, Sigma Pi Fraternity, life member of Elk's Club, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Military Order of the Stars and Stripes, Sons of the American Legion, Honorary Kentucky Colonel, and he was previously involved in Boy Scouting.
John attended Indiana University, where he was a Geology Major.
He was a member of St. Joseph University Parish Church.
John's real passion in life was to entertain people of all ages with his stories and jokes. He never knew a stranger.
John is survived by his beloved wife Alice Forrest, son James Forrest, Terre Haute, grandchildren Jerod Forrest and Savannah Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The celebration of John's life will take place at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 2 p.m., at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 S. 5th St., Terre Haute.
Burial will take place in Grandview Cemetery.
All are invited to join the family at St. Joseph's following committal services, for hot food and to share stories of John's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's honor may be made to the Low Vision Program in care of Will Center, 4312 S. 7th St., Terre Haute, Ind., 47802.
