A local company is undergoing some big changes, including its name.

Effective Aug. 1, NewWave Communications will officially assume responsibility for providing cable television, Internet and phone service from Avenue Broadband in Southeastern Illinois and Southern Indiana, including Brazil.

The acquisition has been months in the making, and according to NewWave Senior Vice President of Operations Larry Eby, there are multiple aspects that will be revamped.

"We have plans in the works to renovate the facility," Eby said about the building at 604 E. National Ave., Brazil. "We hope to create a warmer environment for the customers and to show off the products we offer."

One major upgrade Eby told The Brazil Times is to the options of Internet capabilities.

"We have already started this process, and by Sept. 1, we hope to have a pair of higher-speed options available," he said. "One is a 30MB download speed option with 3MB upload, and the other offer will be for 50MB download and 5MB upload speeds."

Eby said a big reason for this is to establish dominant high-speed Internet in the area.

In addition, the phone and cable television services will see some improvements as well.

"One of our other projects is to add more High-Definition channels in the fall, but there will also be major enhancements to the phone service," he told The Brazil Times. "We have had a lot of success in the Midwest, and we plan to upgrade the reliability of the phone service locally."

Centralized in Sikeston, Mo., NewWave Communications provides services to customers in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and South Carolina.

Eby said NewWave, which earned the Independent Operator of the Year award in 2010, has no plans to increase rates any time in the near future.

"We want to provide the best service possible while still offering the current options and triple-play packages customers have come to enjoy," Eby said.

Officials at the Brazil location told The Brazil Times customers may still pay their bill at the store during the renovations as a spot will be open at the rear of the building for the transactions.

Sure hope it is better service than what Avenue has been . Finally had mine diconnected almost a year ago . Due to the fact it was out more times than it was on . went to The Dish . but the prices on that are to high . so hopefully this will be a good change , for a change :)

Already having problems with the internet. They can't get my wireless connection to work. I have to be cord connected to get on the internet. It was working fine last week when I went to bed and the next morning no connection. I called and was directed to NUWAVE. Was on hold for 15 minutes before I got an answer.... then worked for about an hour and... still not working.

All this sounds so familiar,I WAS SO SICK OF AVENUE'S PHONE AND INTERNET I WENT BACK TO FRONTIER AND FOR THE LAST 6 MO. I've had no problems with either!!!Avenue sucks!!!I STILL HAVE CABLE AND HD however and there are always some hd channels not working if his continues I may go with dish or direct tv. I absolutely want to support local company but no one should have to put up with poor, poor service, until a definate change I will not go back.New Wave has its work cut out for it because Avenue put this cable co. way down on everyone's list.I'm so glad to see them gone.

I hope they fix the cable, half of our upper channels work half the time. They said the wiring coming in the house is too old and not able to carry good current. But they wont replace it.

I learned my lesson long ago with local cable companies, now I have Dish Network, and have had for 15 years. The only time my reception is "iffy" or goes out (infrequently) is when a bad storm goes through - but I can still watch my DVR shows.

Dish also offers internet via cable, or through Earthlink (DSL), which is what I have, after having a horrible time with Frontier.

Also, Dish JUST raised their prices, but have had the same prices before this recent rate hike ($5/mo).

Explore your other options, even if it isn't through DISH NETWORK. I'm merely offering what works (and has worked) for me for many years.

I pay $29.99/mo through Earthlink for 3MB and around $60/mo for 120 channels with Dish. They're offering a deal for 12 months if you sign up for 24 months on Dish right now. Hope this helps some of you, who are unhappy with AVENUE now.
