Fred R. McDonald passed away July 30, 2011, at Cloverleaf Health Center in Knightsville.

Fred was born Oct. 3, 1937, to John Roger and Helen (Monce) McDonald.

He attended Brazil High School and later received his G.E. Diploma. Fred had worked at Twigg Industries, Arketex, Allisons and drove for Sneath Oil and Hunter Oil.

Fred worked for Indianapolis Star and News, and Brazil Daily Times. He worked at The Brazil Times for many years as circulation manager and during that time, was a mentor and friend to many young girls and boys.

Fred served two terms as a Brazil City Councilman.

In his free time, he and his son Fritz liked to referee basketball and umpire softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers, infant John Roger Jr., and Charles William McDonald, sister Peggy McDonald and his daughter Mitzie Gay McDonald, who passed away in 1982.

He is survived by sons Fritz (Mary) McDonald, and Carrick McDonald, brothers Richard (Francis) McDonald, and Tom McDonald, sister-in-law Ruthie McDonald, grandchildren Ashley, Katherine and Keegan McDonald, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service for family and friends will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at 10 a.m., at Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil.
