Football teams around the state have begun their preparations for the 2011 season, which is quickly approaching on the horizon. Two-a-day practices began Monday morning for most teams around the state and the Northview football program is no different as the Knights cast an eye on opening night on the road at Indianapolis Broad Ripple on Aug. 19. The team will hold a scrimmage at home against Terre Haute South on Aug. 12.

Football isn't the only sport that has gotten started amidst the steamy, 90-plus degree temperatures and some coaches have scheduled their practices for early in the morning to avoid the worst of the temperatures.

Cross-country teams at both Clay City and Northview High Schools are practicing before 8 a.m. before the temperatures truly heat up for their runners. Soccer teams at Northview have also scheduled practice in the morning and have done some work indoors.

For Northview High School, the girls' golf team will be the first squad to get underway with a tournament scheduled for Thursday at Edgewood.
