Forty two years ago, the Covered Bridge Art Association was nothing but a dream of some determined young artists in Parke County.
That dream has come true with the present light and airy historical building located on the north side of the Square in Rockville.
For several years people have looked up at the upper floors wishing it could be used for more room for classes, to store our permanent collection, etc. We would like to display some of the wonderful works of Dr. Pirkle, Firma Phillips, Grace Mitchell, June Wasson Deener, Jean Thompson, Sue Dooley and Barbara Flock just to name a few for all to view. Room for larger classes, taught by professionals -- as many of you know, art is one of the cuts being made by school systems.
We now have an ambitious group of artists who are willing to give their talents and labor to make that part come true. New wiring, framing and dry wall, cooling and heating, and plumbing are needed to reach the first goal. This renovation project would impact our children, artists and the citizens of Parke County.
We are fortunate to have the Parke County Community Foundation helping by offering a dollar for dollar match up to $15,000. We need support from everyone as well as the foundation's. No amount is too large or too small, and your contribution is tax deductible. If you are a Lilly employee or Lilly retiree, your donation will be tripled. Please designate that on your check. This is an opportunity to make your dollar actually double or triple! Checks should be made out to the Covered Bridge Art Gallery.
The mailing address is Parke County Community Foundation, 115 N. Market St., Rockville, Ind., 47872. For more information contact the Art Gallery at 765-569-9422. Thank you for your past and present support!
