Car Seat Station

The Clay County Sheriff's Department has established a Permanent Child Safety Seat Fitting Station for the inspection and installation of car seats.

Classes Offered

Ivy Tech Community College will offer classes in Clay County beginning Aug. 22.

The classes will take place at the Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers (LEAAP) Center, 501 E. Jackson St., Brazil, or North Clay Middle School.

The Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers (LEAAP) Center, 501 E. Jackson St., Brazil, is currently offering preschool screenings.

The screenings are for children who live in the Clay Community School district and will be 4-years-old by Aug. 1, 2011.

Tutoring Offered

The Clay County Adult Literacy Program will conduct free private tutoring sessions at the Brazil Public Library for adults who wish to improve their reading skills or would like to learn to read.

Pamphlets are currently available at various locations around the city.

Those wishing to take part in the sessions are urged to return the pamphlet to the Clay County Adult Literacy Program, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Classes Available

The Clay County Health Department has available free smoking cessation counseling and smoking cessation products.

'Halie's Rainbow'

The second "Halie's Rainbow" Halie Hite Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, at the Oak Ridge Golf Course.

Two shotgun starts have been planned.

Prizes will be awarded.

Those interested in participating should send entry form to Halie's Rainbow, 709A, N. Alabama St., Brazil, and make checks payable to Halie's Rainbow.

All proceeds will be sent to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation to be placed in the Halie Hite Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Annual Show

The Yesteryear Power Club will conduct its annual show event Saturday, at Goshorn Park in Clay City.

Tractors, trucks, cars, engines, old iron of any kind (restored or unrestored) will be free to show or sell.

Door prizes will be given all day. In addition, there will be a free ham and beans dinner at noon.

A tractor parade and poker run are also scheduled as well as tractor games after the parade.

A&W Root Beer Restaurant, 12 Main St., Clay City, will sponsor a Bike Night from 5-9 p.m., Saturday.

A 50-50 drawing will take place to support Youth for Christ and the Rock.

Also, eight Harley Davidson motorcycles will be given away by A&W at the national level, with the winning peel off tickets located on drink cups.

A DJ will play music in the parking lot.

Ice Cream Social

The annual North Union United Methodist Church Ice Cream Social will take place at 7 p.m., Saturday.

The church is located at the Clay-Vigo County line on State Road 42.

Sandwiches, homemade ice cream, desserts will be offered, as will a salad bar.
