The Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC issued a warning Thursday for communities to be on guard against a scam.
The scam, according to officials, claims to distribute free vacation trips on behalf of REMC. It is being perpetrated via phone calls to both members and non-members of REMC.
"As always, if someone calls you, claiming to represent the REMC and it just doesn't sound right, please call us to verify," UDWI CEO Brian Sparks said. "Your safety is our primary concern."
Anyone receiving calls should immediately report them to their local police department.
