The sounds of snare drums, trumpets and more have filled the air around Brazil lately as the Northview Marching Knights have started practicing for its upcoming 2011 season.

During this past week, NMK Director Bob Medworth said the students have taken part in the "Learn The Show Camp," arriving at the school at 9 a.m. and leaving at 5 p.m.

The camp helps the students learn the drill for the show, which Medworth said has not been named yet.

The Marching Knights did take Wednesday afternoon off due to excessive heat, but were back on the practice field Thursday morning.

Medworth said in addition to learning the show routine, marchers also worked on fundamentals of marching.

"The goal is to have the opener done by Friday (evening)," Medworth said.

Next week, marchers will practice from 9 a.m.-noon, and will continue that routine until school begins.

The Marching Knights' season officially begins with a contest in Plainfield Saturday, Sept. 17.

My son is a NMK and i have been told that the band gets frequent breaks for water. They also practice 1/2 day inside and 1/2 day outside. I was very pleased to hear that as i was concerned about the heat when band camp started.

Keep up the great work NMK!
