The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Ice Cream!

The 54th Carbon United Methodist Church Homemade Ice Cream Social will take place from 4:30-7 p.m., Friday.

Homemade ice cream will be served, in addition to barbecue sandwiches, pimento cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, coney dogs, four different types of salads, cakes and pies, strawberry shortcake (with or without ice cream) and beverages.

The church is located five miles north of Brazil on State Road 59 and one mile east into Carbon.

All are welcome to enjoy the food and fellowship.

All food items will be individually priced.

Pence In Town

Gubernatorial candidate Congressman Mike Pence will be the guest speaker at an ice cream social hosted by the Clay County Republican Club Saturday.

The event will begin at 2:30 p.m., and will take place at the Forest Park Pavilion.

There is no charge to attend the event, but homemade ice cream, cookie and a drink will be served for $3.


A fundraiser for Serving on the Streets and Carmen Schleppy will take place Saturday at the Family Worship Center on United States 40.

While no one will be turned away from the event, voluntary donations of $3 at the door will be accepted.

Open House

Staunton Elementary School will conduct an open house Monday, Aug. 15, from 5-6 p.m.

Parents will be able to register students at this time. In addition, parents and students will be able to check class lists, pay book rentals and tour classrooms.

Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon cutting ceremony in honor of the USS Indianapolis Memorial Highway will take place at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16.

The event will take place in conjunction with a wreath laying ceremony during Navy Week and will be conducted at the Indiana War Memorial, 431 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis.

After the ribbon cutting, ceremony guests will be invited to participate in a tour of the war memorial.


The Northview High School Band Boosters will sponsor a fundraiser for the Marching Knights Saturday, Aug. 20.

The event, an all-you-can-eat (and catch) pancake breakfast, known nationally as "Chris Cakes."

Tickets may be purchased in advance beginning Aug. 1, at the band office or by calling 812-230-8262 or 812-240-1472.

Advance tickets cost $7.50. Tickets at the door cost $8. Children 2-under will be admitted free.

Ice Cream Social Scheduled

The annual Bee Ridge Church Ice Cream Social will take place Saturday, Aug. 20, from 4-7 p.m.

Along with homemade ice cream, hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, chips, pies and cakes will be served.

There will be musical entertainment, children's games, door prizes and fellowship for all.
