For Congressman Mike Pence, it's all about moving forward.

On Saturday, Pence was the guest speaker at the Clay County Republican Club Ice Cream Social, which took place at the Forest Park Pavilion.

Approximately 125 people attended the event.

"I honestly believe that we have the best governor in the nation," Pence said, referring to current Gov. Mitch Daniels. "We've made extraordinary progress.

"Indiana has been setting the pace. We've held our own in these difficult financial times."

Pence, who recently threw his hat in the ring to replace Daniels, described his three reasons for running for governor, including his love for the state of Indiana; believing the state if on "the verge of a huge era of economic growth;" and the fact the state has "its fiscal house in order."

"We've been canvassing the state," Pence told the crowd. "We've become the fiscal envy of our country. But we can build an even better Indiana than what we've done in the last six years."

The Columbus native got a laugh out of the crowd when discussing his venture into business. He said approximately 20 years ago, he decided to start his own business, thinking a syndicated radio talk show statewide was a good idea.

After finding few radio stations interested, he contacted WSDM owner and Brazil resident Mike Petersen, who immediately got in touch with him.

"It's great to be back in Clay County," Pence said.

Pence has served as Congressman for Indiana's 6th District since 2001. However, following the 2010 election, he said he would not seek re-election of Chairman of the House Republican Conference. He officially announced he was a Gubernatorial candidate in May.

Pence-- who fielded a handful of questions from audience members -- also expressed gratitude to those in attendance.

"Let's go to work," he said.

I am sure that this will be deleted due to the fact that Pence is a putz! Oh I am sure that the citizens of Indiana will vote the idiot into office, due to the fact that voted against raising taxes for the top 2% of the wealthy, voted to end medicare, social security, and medicaid.

Mr. Pence is one of the masterminds behind the elimination of the middle class. He and his believers believe we as a country are better off without a middle class. Mr. Pence claims he is a PATRIOT but he and the people he represents have no economic patriotism whatsoever!
