Knights and Eels earn volleyball wins

GREENCASTLE -- Northview improved to 2-0 this season by defeating Greencastle on the road by a 25-22, 25-10, 25-11 score.

The Knights got a team-high, 15 kills from freshman McKenzi Kumpf, who also had four digs, two aces and a block. Sophomore Shelbi Morris contributed 10 kills and Brylie Riddell posted five kills, six digs, five blocks and five service aces. Taylor Hess had three kills on offense and passed out 14 assists and added six digs with four aces.

"We took them too lightly going in," coach Scott McDonald said of the Tiger Cubs. "They were much better then they were last year. They were very scrappy and we were outhustled in the first set. Sets two and three were our best so far. We are starting to get some continuity to our offense. Thursday against North, we will have to be ready to play."

Briana Cook passed out 18 assists in the win and Hannah Willocks added two kills and a pair of digs. Ashlen Buck had 22 digs to go with three aces and Audrey Clark had six digs and two aces. Mikayla Rowan rang up a pair of kills and had two blocks for the Knights and Alexus Bex had a kill and a dig.

Northview's next match is this evening in the home opener against Terre Haute North starting with a 5 p.m. junior varsity match.

Clay City volleyball opens with victory

DUGGER -- Clay City cruised past conference foe Union (Dugger) in the season opener on Tuesday night, posting a 25-10, 25-10, 25-12 victory.

Senior Brielle Drelick led the team with 11 kills and added four aces and seven service points. Asie Jeffers led the way with five aces and had a team-high 16 points and added seven kills to go with three blocks for the Eels.

Halli Brewer had four kills in the victory and Meeghan Riggs contributed nine points and six digs with a kill. Chloe Kittle posted a kill, an assist and an ace with Clarie Miller serving up a pair of aces and four total points. In her first varsity match, freshman Emmie Kittle had 18 assists to lead the way and also had three aces, six points and three digs. Callie Dayhuff added four digs for Clay City.
