The Alpha Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa met at 6 p.m. at the home of Meganne Stepp. Hostesses for the month were our new officers Meganne Stepp, Megan Bayler, Kristin Beasley, Vanessa Paullus and Nichole Keller.
We began the evening by passing out scholarships checks to two of our scholarship winners that joined us for the social. The remaining scholarship check is being mailed out to the recipient.
Our next order of business was our annual corporate meeting. New officers were introduced and the names were accepted as read. Sara Schultz motioned to close the corporate meeting and Christy Casassa seconded it.
The August meeting was called to order by President Meganne Stepp followed by the opening song and verse. Nichole Keller took roll call and the May minutes were read by Christy Casassa. Kristen Beasley gave the Treasurer's Report and it was accepted as read. No new bills were submitted.
Vanessa Paullus read correspondence. We received thank you cards from two of our scholarships winners, Emily Durcholz and Aaron Kinser. Standing committee reports were given next. Courtesy, little perks were not given out this month. The telephone committee was reminded to make phone calls for the September meeting. Members were also encouraged to start collecting pop tabs for Riley Children's Hospital. Megan Bayler and Luanne Grey were sent a condolence card for the passing of their grandmother/mother. Danna Johnson and her family were sent a Pizza Hut gift card since her husband was injured.
Project committee reports were given next. Program books were passed out at the meeting and everyone was also sent a copy through email.
The calendar will be updated to reflect schedule changes discussed at the meeting. The scholarship application was discussed due to conflicting information about who is able to apply. The scholarship will be open to current Clay County seniors to apply and anyone who is currently in college may apply at the state level.
Mandy Slater motioned to make the change and Sara Schultz seconded it. Mary Yelton and Roberta Weliever sent out about 100 letters to inactive members to try to encourage participation. At this time we have not had any responses.
New business was discussed. A committee is needed to update our current card file. Mandy Slater, Roberta Weliever, Meganne Stepp and Nichole Keller will be in charge of updating the card file. If anyone else is interested please let one of these ladies know.
Next, we discussed changing our pledge timeline. The changes were suggested since we have a two month lapse between initiation and our first meeting for new members. Legacies will continue to be initiated in June due to the by-laws. However the new timeline for adult members is as follows:
September- New member forms will be distributed
October- First reading
November- Second Reading
Roberta Weliever made a motion to accept the new timeline and Christy Casassa seconded it. Next, we discussed how we will organize dinners for sisters in need. If you are hostess for the month you will be in charge of organizing the meal or need but not necessarily for providing it.
Fundraising was discussed next. Beef House roll will be sold prior to Thanksgiving and Easter and nut forms will be passed out at the next meeting. Mandy Slater suggested we look into selling mums and will let us know what she found out at the September meeting.
The winner of the general fund drawing was Heather Campbell and Megan Bayler won the pledge project basket. Members are encouraged to donate items to be used in the general fund drawing for each month. Officers will be attending Province Convention on Sept. 17.
Meganne Stepp shared a section from the Cross Keys. Tri Kappa offers a program called Textbooks for Tri Kappas. Textbooks can be sold, rented or bought from the website and Tri Kappa receives a portion of the profit.
The website is www.textbookpartners.com and the information is featured in the summer Cross Keys on page 10.
The closing verse was recited and the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m. The next meeting will be Sept. 12, 2011 and the location will be announced.
