CLAY CITY -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced Thursday that State Road 59 and State Road 246 in Clay City will close Monday, Aug. 22, north of Seventh Street, to just north of Ninth Street.
The intersections of Seventh and Eighth Streets will be closed for reconstruction.
The roadway is scheduled to reopen on Sept. 9, 2011, and the project is to be completed by the end of October.
The detour for southbound SR 59 follows State Road 46 West to State Road 159 south to SR 246 east and back to SR 59 and reverse for the northbound traffic.
The detour for eastbound SR 246 beginning at the junction with SR 59 follows SR 46 back to SR 246, and the reverse for westbound traffic.
Dave O'Mara Contractor, Inc., was awarded the $3.5 million Major Moves contract.
This project on SR 59 is from just south of the intersection with SR 157 and Ninth Street to just north of First Street in Clay City.
The improvements will include two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot parking lanes along both sides of the roadway.
