Judge Needed

The Bowling Green Old Settlers Committee is currently looking for a male judge for its Little Miss and Little Mr. Contests.

The contest will take place Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, beginning at 8:45 a.m.

Car Seat Station

The Clay County Sheriff's Department has established a Permanent Child Safety Seat Fitting Station for the inspection and installation of car seats.

Classes Offered

Ivy Tech Community College will offer classes in Clay County beginning Aug. 22.

The classes will take place at the Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers (LEAAP) Center, 501 E. Jackson St., Brazil, or North Clay Middle School.

Tutoring Offered

The Clay County Adult Literacy Program will conduct free private tutoring sessions at the Brazil Public Library for adults who wish to improve their reading skills or would like to learn to read.

Pamphlets are currently available at various locations around the city.

Those wishing to take part in the sessions are urged to return the pamphlet to the Clay County Adult Literacy Program, 204 N. Walnut St., Brazil, Ind., 47834.

The Clay County Health Department has available free smoking cessation counseling and smoking cessation products.

Special Meeting

The Common Council of the City of Brazil will conduct a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m.

The 2012 budget will be discussed.

Meeting Set

The Clay County Chamber of Commerce will conduct its monthly meeting Tuesday, Aug. 23, at noon.

The meeting will take place in the St. Vincent Clay Hospital Community Room.

Chances for Indiana Youth representative Billie Kauffman will be the featured speaker.

Cost for lunch will be $7 for members and $10 for non-members.

Guest Speaker

Staunton First Christian Church, 101 W. Columbus St., Staunton, will host guest speaker Dr. Leonard Thompson during its Bible Study meeting Wednesday, Aug. 24.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Thompson will be on hand to discuss the religion of Islam. For example, he will discuss what the Quran teaches, the differences between Sunni and Shiites and more.

The public is invited to the meeting.

Meeting Scheduled

The American Legion Post 2 trustees will meet at 6 p.m., Aug. 25.

The regular meeting for members will take place at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be at the V.F.W. Post 1127.

Meeting Scheduled

The Clay County Council has scheduled a special meeting for 1:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26.

The council will discuss additional appropriations to demolish the old jail in addition to a transfer of appropriations for the surveyor cornerstone.

Free Hair Cuts

Stadler's Barber Shop, 1919 Maple Ave., Terre Haute, will provide free hair cuts for all boys in grades Kindergarten through 12th-grade Saturday, Aug. 27.

Office hours for the store are 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

Law enforcement vehicles will be at the establishment for children to see in addition to a bounce house and more.

Free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be given to children. Cost will be $1 for adults.

Girls will be admitted to the event, but the business will not provide hair cuts for females.
