The Northview Knights played to a season-best score of 184 at Forest Park Golf Course to finish second to 18th-ranked Terre Haute North, which shot a 165 on Monday night. West Vigo placed third with a score of 225. The Knights' junior varsity squad carded a 229.
"We had 184 and I think that's our best this season by two or three shots," coach Bob Treash said of the Knights. "I expect to be a little better than that, but I'll take it, we had a couple of girls play really well. We had a couple of junior varsity girls, especially Kenzie Magers and (Jensen) Swaim, who are coming around a little bit. I'm pretty satisfied."
The Knights got some balance from its varsity lineup as Keirsten Mikesell, Sierra Girton and Megan Heaton each shot a 45 to lead the team followed by a 49 from Karlie Atkinson and Macie Lynch. Hillary Thomas shot a 56 for the Knights.
"That's something we've been looking for," Treash said of the Knights' balance on Monday night. "We've had two or three girls play good, but some other girls didn't. Tonight we got three, 45's, and we have some girls that are capable of shooting better, but we're very satisfied."
Terre Haute North's Rachel Welker earned medalist honors with a one-over-par 37, just one stroke ahead of Nicole Anderson.
The Knights' junior varsity was led by Kenzie Magers' 54 and a 56 from Jensen Swaim.
Next up for the Knights and Patriots is a three-way match with Terre Haute South on Thursday at Forest Park that begins at 4:30 p.m.
