Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cox

Wayne and Jean Cox, Plainfield, formerly of Brazil, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children on Sept. 10, from 5-8 p.m. at the Amo Community Building, Amo.

Wayne and Jean were married on September 8, 1961, at the Penial United Methodist Church, Brazil.

Jean is the daughter of the late Clint and Audrie (Modesitt) Porter. She was a 1962 graduate of Van Buren High School. She was a homemaker and stay at home mother until their youngest child started school at which time she went to work as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager for the Medco Corporation and also the Beverly Corporation for several years. When their grandchildren came along, Jean worked for several years as a teacher in various preschools. She is a member of the Community Alliance and Services for Young Children, and she received her CDA degree from Ivy Tech in Indianapolis before opening her own licensed in-home daycare and preschool which she has operated for the last 15 years.

Wayne is the son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Anderson) Cox. He was a 1957 graduate of Brazil High School, and attended Indiana State Teachers College, University of Indianapolis, University of Vincennes and Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis. He worked as a superintendent for Shades State Park and retired from the Indiana Dept. of Corrections where he had been employed for over 30 years. He is an active member of the American Legion and serves on the board for the Vigo County Conservation Club.

They both have been very involved in raising their family, from Girl Scouts to Boy Scouts and 4-H, as well as being band parents for the Plainfield High School marching band. They are both active members of the Church of Christ, corner of Franklin and Pinckley Streets, Brazil.

They are the parents of the late Phillip Cox Arant and wife Glenda, Mooresville; Christina Cox Roberts and husband Gareth, South Wales, UK; Bradley Cox and wife Shelia, Danville; and Cindy Cox Summitt and husband Bobby, Oolitic. They are the also the grandparents of PJ Arant, Jesse and Josiah Cox, Cory Cox, and Caitlyn Hoffman.
