The Northview Knights Choral Boosters will be selling homecoming corsages Friday, Sept. 2, at the football game to raise money for the Northview and North Clay choirs.

Those interested may purchase a handmade, silk corsage for $10. Ribbons and trinkets are available to personalize the corsage for 25 cents each.

Students and alumni are encouraged to wear their corsages at the homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 16.

Squire corsages for elementary students will be available for $5 and include three trinkets. Northview spirit buttons can also be purchased for $1.

Donnice Barnett, treasurer of Choral Boosters, came up with the idea after being inspired by Texas homecoming corsages, which can weigh up to 15 pounds.

She gave three reasons for the fundraiser.

"We had tons of ribbon leftover from a banquet and didn't want it to go to waste," she said. "We also wanted to do something serviceable for the students."

The boosters also needed to raise money.

Each new piece of music costs about $2.50 per person, and the high school and middle school choirs would like to update their vocal libraries.

The middle school choir recently bought three pieces of music, which makes up about one-third of a concert, at a cost of $400. The choirs also need funds for competitions and fun activities.

The burgundy, black and silver corsages can be kept as keepsakes.

"This will hopefully start some school spirit," Barnett said.

The boosters will begin selling the corsages at 5 p.m. Friday, at the Northview football stadium.
