He was born April 20, 1939, in Brazil, as the son of William James and Kathryn Warner Pearce Jr.
Following graduation from high school and two years of college, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for the next 30 years, including service during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by sons William J. Whitted, Brazil, and Joe Devon Whitted, Raleigh, N.C., brothers John T. Pearce, Gary L. Pearce, and Ronald J. Pearce, all of Brazil, sister Carol A. Buck, Brazil, stepdaughter Michelle R. Greer, Texas, stepson Joseph G. Pearce, and other extended family.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Ind.
