GREENCASTLE -- Northview traveled to Greencastle Tuesday and continued its strong play this season by defeating the Tiger Cubs 3-2. Mild temperatures greeted both tennis squads, but action on the court was white hot.
The best action of the night saw the Knights wind up on the losing end of things. At No.1 singles, Cole Watts battled Greencastle's Landon Miller in a match that saw Watts commit his fair share of unforced errors. Miller was able to capitalize and Watts lost in straight sets 6-2 and 6-2.
In No. 1 doubles action, Dillon Reynolds and Skyler Holifield faced off against Greencastle's A.J Gerard and Cy Spencer. The first set went according to play with Reynolds and Holifield picking up a 6-4 win. However, the second set saw the duo miss multiple serves and hitting balls long or wide, while allowed GHS to take the second set 6-1.
With the match knotted up at one-game apiece, the two teams went to super tiebreaker, which turned out to be super indeed. Both sides battled back in forth with neither being able to deal a knockout blow to the other. In the end Gerard and Spencer outlasted Reynolds and Holifield for the win, taking the tiebreaker 22-20.
The Knights' No. 2 singles player Bryce Britton utilized his overpowering serve to take down Lee Hayes in straight sets 6-1 and 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Garrett Baysinger's match against Kaden Faust took a little longer, but the result was just as dominant. Baysinger won 6-1 and 6-1.
The No. 2 doubles team of Alec Coughanowr and Devin Clark won big over Alex Asbell and Jason Ummel 6-1 and 6-0.
