The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Heavy Trash Pick Up

The City of Brazil has scheduled heavy trash pick up for the month of October.

The following is a list of dates:

* If trash is picked up on Mondays, heavy trash for the area will be Oct. 7,

* If trash is picked up on Tuesdays, heavy trash for the area will be Oct. 21, and

* If trash is picked up on Thursdays, heavy trash for the area will be Oct. 28.

Those interested must call 448-8501 in advance for pick up.

Roses

The Brazil Lion' Club is currently taking orders for roses.

The club will take orders until Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Cost is $15 per dozen, pre-paid. Orders may be placed with Suellen Wegner at Terre Haute Savings Bank, 260 E. National Ave., Brazil.

Pickup of the roses will be Friday, Oct. 21, from 2-6 p.m., at the bank.

All proceeds will go toward the Brazil Lion's Club community projects.

Donations

Donations for the Clay Community Skatepark may be sent to the Clay Community Parks Association, Inc., Attn: Clay Community Skatepark, PO Box 308, Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Car Seat Station

The Clay County Sheriff's Department has established a Permanent Child Safety Seat Fitting Station for the inspection and installation of car seats.

Auditions

Auditions for the Community Theater of Clay County's Young Actor's Theater, "The Rockin' Tale of Snow White," will take place today, at 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, at 2 p.m.

Ages 6-15 are welcome.

Legion To Meet

Members of the American Legion Post 2 will meet at 7 p.m., at V.F.W. Post 1127, today.

The group's trustees will meet prior to the meeting.

Flushing Hydrants

Staunton Water Works will perform its fall fire hydrant flushing today through Saturday.

Dance!

The YMCA of Clay County will conduct a youth dance Friday.

The dance is open for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. Students should bring their school identification or other document showing their grade.

The dance begins at 8 p.m., and ends at 10:30. Cost is $5.

Concessions will be available for purchase in the Community Room and YMCA staff and volunteers will serve as chaperones. Parents are welcome to stay and chaperone as well.

The dance is a Y function.

Breakfast!

The Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its monthly breakfast from 7-11 a.m., Saturday.

Street Closing

Officials with the City of Brazil announced Tuesday that a portion of Luther Street would be closed Sunday, from noon-3 p.m.

The portion of the street is one block behind the Moose Lodge. For further information, call 443-2221.

Meeting Scheduled

The Clay County Historical Society will meet Monday, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum.

The speaker will be Ken Turner, museum historian, on the topic of "John Wilkes Booth and his connection to Clay County."

The public is invited to attend.

The museum is open Monday through Friday, from 1-4 p.m., and Saturdays, from 1-3:30 p.m.

Tribute Dinner

Eastside Christian Church will again be the site for a tribute dinner for first responders at noon, Tuesday. The menu will include ham and beans, cornbread and more.

The first dinner took place at Eddie's Sandwich Shoppe in 2002 for members of the Brazil City Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, and firefighters.

Craft Program

The Brazil Public Library is inviting all to its facility Thursday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m., to make a scarecrow and a Frankenstein spool pin.

Cost for the program is $5. Those interested in participating are asked to pre-pay and pre-register. For further information, call 448-1981.

Golf Tournament

The annual Clay County Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble will take place Friday, Sept. 16, at Forest Park Golf Course.

Dinner!

The Lady Volunteers will serve a chicken and noodle dinner at the Staunton Community Center Sept. 16.

Serving hours will be 4-7 p.m., or until food runs out.

Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10-under.

The dinner will include chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, green beans and a roll. Coffee, tea, lemonade and desserts will also be available.

Chicken!

Nelson's Port-A-Pit Golden Glow Chicken will make a return appearance at Northview High School during the school's Homecoming football game Friday, Sept. 16.

Serving will take place from 4:30-7 p.m., in the NHS north parking lot. Chicken will be cooked, barbecue-style, on the grounds. Tailgating will be allowed and the school cafeteria will also be open for those wishing to utilize it.

Cost is $8.50 per person. The meal will include one-half of a chicken, baked beans, potato salad, rolls, butter and drink, all prepared by Nelson's catering staff.
