North Clay volleyball knocks off Trojans

TERRE HAUTE -- North Clay's seventh --and-eighth-grade volleyball teams improved to 6-0 this season by topping West Vigo on the road Thursday night. The sixth-grade squad also earned a victory and bumped its season mark to 4-0-1.

The North Clay eighth-grade posted a 25-18, 25-15 victory as both Ashley Heck and Zoe Orman had six points. Heck had four aces from the service line and Orman had two in the win. Alex Swaim had four points and three aces with Kaytlin Galloway adding six points for the Knights. Kaylee Cooper, Alyssa Yocom and Morgan Stearley each had four points and Bre Dove added three.

Gabby Horrall led the team with three kills with both Dove and Stearley adding two. Madison Trusty, Madison McDonald, Yocom and Orman each had one kill. Yocom and Stearley each had three assists, Cooper and McDonald each added two.

The seventh-grade squad won a 25-16, 25-15 decision as Kenzie Stearley produced five aces to go with four aces and four assists from Kerstie Shaw. Stacy Payton had two kills and four aces for the Knights and Allison Herrick posted three aces, three kills and an assist. Sammie Thomas added an ace and a kill with Quinn Albright contributing an ace and two kills for North Clay. Alisha Long had a kill and an assist, Megan Sampson had two kills, Parker Spears had a kill and Maddie Russell passed out two assists.

The sixth-grade won 25-17, 15-25, 15-8 over the Trojans as Kennedy Enders had 12 service points and three assists with Payton Kumpf adding five service points and three assists. Elle Tipton had four assists and three service points with Emily Yocom adding five kills. Maggie Mershon and Sera Little had two kills apiece with teammate Dalyn Boor adding one kill. Hope Grady contributed three service points for North Clay.

Both the seventh and eighth-grade travel to Otter Creek on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and the sixth-grade hosts South Vermillion on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
